Summary

What would happen if we called on God for help and God actually appeared? In Mitch Albom’s profound new novel of hope and faith, a group of shipwrecked passengers pull a strange man from the sea。 He claims to be “the Lord。” And he says he can only save them if they all believe in him。

Adrift in a raft after a deadly ship explosion, nine people struggle for survival at sea。 Three days pass。 Short on water, food and hope, they spot a man floating in the waves。 They pull him in。

“Thank the Lord we found you,” a passenger says。

“I am the Lord,” the man whispers。

So begins Mitch Albom’s most beguiling and inspiring novel yet。

Albom has written of heaven in the celebrated number one bestsellers The Five People You Meet in Heaven and The First Phone Call from Heaven。 Now, for the first time in his fiction, he ponders what we would do if, after crying out for divine help, God actually appeared before us? What might the Lord look, sound and act like?

In The Stranger in the Lifeboat, Albom keeps us guessing until the end: Is this strange and quiet man really who he claims to be? What actually happened to cause the explosion? Are the survivors already in heaven, or are they in hell?

The story is narrated by Benji, one of the passengers, who recounts the events in a notebook that is later discovered—a year later—when the empty life raft washes up on the island of Montserrat。

It falls to the island’s chief inspector, Jarty LeFleur, a man battling his own demons, to solve the mystery of what really happened。

A fast-paced, compelling novel that makes you ponder your deepest beliefs, The Stranger in the Lifeboat suggests that answers to our prayers may be found where we least expect them。

Unexpected!I chose this highest rating because this story has value for every reader。 Albom gives a refreshing perspective on an age-old problem - the human condition。

3。75I usually like this authors books and I really liked the message here, but had a little trouble with the hokey way the story was told。 Still I appreciate the theme here, that God doesn't always answer our prayers in the way we think he should, that he/she is always with us, and death is not to be feared。 3。75I usually like this authors books and I really liked the message here, but had a little trouble with the hokey way the story was told。 Still I appreciate the theme here, that God doesn't always answer our prayers in the way we think he should, that he/she is always with us, and death is not to be feared。 。。。more

I was drawn to this book… I inquired about it & was told it’s flying out the door。 I never buy a book for that reason。 Stranger has many messages for one and all。 Honestly it’s not the best writing but it’s the messages that get you in the end。 I definitely recommend。

I got a little bored towards the end which is odd for such a short book, however, really enjoyed it overall and found it inspirational。

So, I sat down and was going to read a few more pages。。 then before I knew it, it was two hours later and I had finished the entire book。 Mitch Albom is my favorite author。 Period。 His stories flow, his novels are all page turners, and his quotes force you to stop and reflect。 Honestly, I am not a religious person - but his stories make me think about becoming one。 Read this book。 Now。

I would give it 4 1/2 stars overall。 This is another winner from Mitch Albom。 It is the story of the survivors of a luxury yacht accident who meet a person claiming to be God。 This is simply the story of how they react to that news and handle what this means for their continued existence。

Mitch Albom, in his book, ‘The Stranger in the Lifeboat,’ wraps his reader in a warm, cozy throw of a story。It revolves around a the ‘journey’ of 10 people in a life raft after a shipwreck。 Each one has a different personality, skill and belongs to a different socioeconomic class。 After three days, with no hope, no food and no water, they encounter a man in the water … a man who says he is the Savior。Yes, as in the Lord and Savior 。。。 Can you even imagine? There is adventure, there is mystery, th Mitch Albom, in his book, ‘The Stranger in the Lifeboat,’ wraps his reader in a warm, cozy throw of a story。It revolves around a the ‘journey’ of 10 people in a life raft after a shipwreck。 Each one has a different personality, skill and belongs to a different socioeconomic class。 After three days, with no hope, no food and no water, they encounter a man in the water … a man who says he is the Savior。Yes, as in the Lord and Savior 。。。 Can you even imagine? There is adventure, there is mystery, there are a mosaic of characters and a host of emotions from despair to grief to anguish to misery to distress to torment。 Also, there are a lot of big vocabulary words and complicated sentences。After a while, you wonder where the climax is? What’s the point? I wanted to like it … really, I did。 Albom has had successes with other books like ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’ and ‘The Five People You Meet in Heaven。’But this one was just missing something, or maybe it had a little bit too much。 Noted as an inspiration novel, ‘The Stranger in the Lifeboat’ did offer a few poignant points - one is death is very much a part of life, two is God is the God of life and death and three, we are never alone。According to the writer, in the ‘chapters,’ when people are grieving, sometimes what they see … when they are in pain, what they see … well, it might not be the reality that is meant to be seen, but what their emotions are overwhelming them with。 The character of the Lord in the book says at one point to the narrator that grief and tears on Earth is natural when we lose someone dear to us … but we have to remember, that person who has left us isn’t crying or sad。 So, those few points were pretty good, but there seemed to be a lack of character development fully, other than a few pages here and there when epitaphs were given。 Read it you’ll see。In the end, Albom saved the book with the last few pages。 The story took a turn this reader didn’t expect, so I can’t give it a full negative review。I mean, after all, it is like life with God – we don’t know what is ahead, but we do know with God we can expect His promise He made in Romans 8:28 to be filled - “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose。”Just now … a thought hit me … maybe Romans 8:28 was the theme of this book? If not, it could be。And that makes the story even a little better。 Try it, you may rank it a five star。 3。5 stars。 。。。more

Absolutely loved this book! I know I will reread it in the future - and I just about never revisit a book once I’m finished with it。 This one touches you so deeply。 At times you will feel shock, anger, disappointment, and crushing loss。 But above all you will begin to understand and feel God’s love for each and every one of us! Beautifully written。 I highly recommend it!

Read this in 2 days。 Hard to put down。 Wanted to find out how it ends。

3。5 Easy read, thought provoking。 I don’t necessarily believe in a Church, but I believe in God。 This was like a warm, fuzzy feeling of faith。 Interesting to read that sometimes God’s answer to a prayer is ‘no’。 Glad to see Nature is fighting back against mankind。 Maybe she will eventually win。

Every once-in-a-while books are written to help restore your spirituality。 This book is one of them。

A very easy to read, thrilling, and makes-you-really-think book about faith and pains of being human。

Seemed like “life of pi” meets “the shack” to me。 Still worth the time and effort and if you are a fan of the author it’s worth your effort。

Another heartwarming storyMitch Albom is an amazing storyteller and does a fabulous job weaving in faith in his stories。 This one fell right into line with his style and was absolutely brilliant!

Rebecca Dalton

I would probably actually give this 3。5 stars as it was not as good as some of Albom’s other books, but it did have an interesting story and characters。 It was not predictable either。

Linda Rosa

This was an incredible read。 Mitch Albom understands the human soul

It pains me to give a Mitch Albom book a low rating but this just wasn’t it, sis。Everything bad about this book is what usually makes every other Mitch Albom book great。I’m sorry, Mitch。 I still love you

Absolutely breathtaking! Rarely do I find a book in which I find it hard to put down。 The story is woven so carefully and with such elegance, you are left to wonder in your own battle of faith and belief the entire story。 While this book is certainly a great Christian read it is not even placed in the Christian fiction section and thus should really be read by all because the story is more than just that of faith, but is a story of hope, of peace, of perseverance。 Absolutely one of the best book Absolutely breathtaking! I would give no stars if possible。On a certain level, The Life of Pi did this better。 Albom tackles a weighty topic and falls short。 It's too short to have depth, too long to be impactful。 His answers to the large, religious questions are trite, shallow, and not particularly comforting。 Either have a short story just about the sea or a full novel that involves the land。 I would give no stars if possible。On a certain level, The Life of Pi did this better。 Albom tackles a weighty topic and falls short。 It's too short to have depth, too long to be impactful。 His answers to the large, religious questions are trite, shallow, and not particularly comforting。 Either have a short story just about the sea or a full novel that involves the land。 。。。more
